Hundreds of attendees celebrated with music and food the birthday of a bakery that maintains that “tradition and innovation can coexist perfectly”
Antònia Roca, Minister of Heritage of the Insular Council of Mallorca: “Celebrating 125 years of an oven that maintains tradition and craftsmanship with its products is a treasure that we must maintain and continue to promote. It’s an example”
Jaume Llompart, mayor of Marratxí: “It’s a day like this that remains marked, it’s a matter of pride. Thanks to the efforts of these businesses, Es Pla de na Tesa has the history it has”
Yesterday, Sunday, July 14, Es Forn, one of Marratxí’s emblematic establishments, celebrated its 125th anniversary. Jaume and Maties Miralles, third generation bakers, invited hundreds of people, most of them from Es Pla de na Tesa, to snack, drink and enjoy the music of the Mallorcan group Toc de Crida. In addition, they took advantage of the party to show their new facade, with a redesign and decorated with 125 Mallorcan ceramic breads made by the City Council’s mixed ceramics workshop in its second edition. They also showed their new corporate image, handing out cloth bags to take away bread and shopping.
The party, according to the organizers, was to thank the workers, suppliers and loyal customers for their involvement. Jaume Miralles, at the head of the business with his brother Maties, master pastry chef, thanked all those present: “We can say nothing more than thank you to everyone who came, a lot of people who hadn’t come for a while, friends, workers and people of the town who have overturned”. Es Forn is celebrating its centenary thanks to maintaining tradition without being afraid to innovate: “Our way is to keep innovating and make the product attractive to young people without losing lo nostro, the traditional product”, says Miralles. The establishment, according to him, is indivisible from the town that has seen it born and grow: “Es Forn is not understood without Es Pla de na Tesa and vice versa. We are very happy here, in this corner and we are very happy”.
The event was attended by the first vice-president and executive councilor of Culture and Heritage of the Insular Council of Mallorca, Antònia Roca, who expressed that “celebrating 125 years of an oven that maintains tradition and craftsmanship with its products is a treasure that we must maintain and continue to promote. Eating that traditional bread and ensaimada makes the difference. It is an example oven that has maintained tradition and quality, incorporating innovation, to reach these 125 years of work”.
The mayor of Marratxí, Jaume Llompart, addressed a few words to the attendees and was excited by the event: “It’s a day like this that will remain marked, as a mayor and Pladenatese that I am, that I’ve lived here all my life life is a pride. Many of us have grown up around this establishment, have been able to enjoy its gastronomy and have spent our best moments with a piece of coca, a panada or an ensaimada. This celebration takes me back to our ancestors, when our godfathers came to live in this town and where, thanks to their efforts and those of these shops, Es Pla de na Tesa has the history it has”. The councilor for Commerce, Odette Torres, was also present, among other councillors.
Only a week ago this business received the Balearic Emblem badge, which recognizes this establishment for offering a distinctive and traditional product, service or trade of the territory, maintaining the same commercial activity for more than 75 years and having a heritage value meaningful.
