Sweet rum is one of the most typical drinks in Mallorca and has been produced in Marratxí since 1982 thanks to the Limsa company. A company with a long tradition that produces anisette, liqueurs and rum.
Nowadays, they produce more than 120.000 litres of Ron Amazona per year.
What is its history?
This liqueur was born in the 19th century as a result of trade between Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Majorca.
How is it produced?
A maceration of fruits and spices combined with sugar cane and rum is used to create sweet rum. The result is a drink with a unique and intense flavour. Its alcohol content is 53%.
How should it be consumed?
Sweet rum is usually consumed cold, in a glass with ice or, as is traditional in Mallorca, it is mixed with coffee, known as ‘rebentat’.
Did you know that there are different theories about the origin of ‘rebentat’?
It is said that Spanish officers used to give coffee with rum to Cuban workers to refresh them and make them perform better at work. Another theory holds that the Spanish drank coffee with rum during the colonial wars in Cuba to give them courage in battle.

Whatever its origin, it is a Mallorcan tradition that is still alive and well, and the ‘rebentat’ is a must in any bar in Mallorca.
